A Big Heart Makes for a Busy Schedule

Regina, SK – If you need something done, ask a busy person. Darlene King is a top producer in her office who also makes time to volunteer in the community. Currently, she is ready to assist pet rescue groups in the wake of the Fort McMurray fires.
“During the LaRonge fires last year, everyone stepped up!” recalls Darlene. “I collected kennels, cages, collars and leashes from all over southeast Saskatchewan. There were so many kind people who donated and helped to deliver items. Countless pets were saved. One call and Alberta’s neighbours to the east are ready to help out!”
Darlene’s most recent mission was collecting clothes for premature infants at the Regina General Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and working at the NICU Radiothon with one of her sons. She recalls having ‘preemies’ of her own, “When the babies come early, the last thing you want to worry about is shopping for little clothes”.
“I would not have my boys if not for the NICU. The nurses were so happy to work the Radiothon fundraiser alongside some of their success stories!” (Pictured right: Ryan and his mother Darlene)
Darlene has also volunteered at the Dress for Success fundraiser, baked cupcakes for the Humane Society, donated to the Kinsmen Telemiracle bake sale, worked the kitchen shift for the Telethon and arranged for all the remaining food donations to be delivered to the Carmichael Outreach. (Pictured top) “We filled a van then filled my Jeep right to the brim! They appreciate everything they receive and I love their staff!”
How does this busy REALTOR® find time to volunteer? Darlene’s reply: “You just do it! The community has been good to me and it’s the least I can do. Mom and Dad volunteered in my hometown while farming fulltime and raising five children. You never do it for the glory. It just needs to be done, so you step up.”
