Surrey, B.C. – Each Christmas, when families in need receive baskets filled with food and gifts from various charities, young children eagerly unwrap their toys while their teenage siblings are often left to watch empty-handed and disappointed. Sutton - Premier Realty challenges the entire real estate community to “bring on the balls”—specifically balls for soccer, basketball, volleyball, baseball and other sports popular with teenagers.
In 2017, the first year of their playful “Bring on the Balls” campaign, Sutton - Premier Realty delivered 260 sports balls worth approximately $1,800 to the Surrey Christmas Bureau. Last November, the team continued the tradition with a delivery of 268 balls to the charity.
“It was brought to our attention that out of 4,000 kids who rely on the Surrey Christmas Bureau, 900 teenagers were left without gifts,” says Sadaf Baig, Managing Broker.
“No child should be overlooked on Christmas. Physical activity should be a fun part of a child's life and is essential for healthy development, so we have vowed to bring on the balls! Are you ready to take on this challenge with us? Do you have the balls?”
Lisa Werring, Executive Director of the Surrey Christmas Bureau, saw firsthand how much people appreciated these gifts. Last year, she noted that the sports balls were very popular “especially the soccer balls—they practically flew out of the depot, the pink ones in particular.”
The public is invited to bring donations to Sutton – Premier Realty’s office located at 15483 104 Avenue in Surrey. The sports equipment is mainly purchased through a combination of direct donations from REALTORS® and their fundraising projects throughout the year.
In addition, the team puts together dozens of Christmas gift baskets specifically for teenagers in need. Last winter, they delivered 40 gift baskets including $25 Guildford mall gift cards for teenagers along with sports balls to Surrey Christmas Bureau. Also, they supplied groceries and gifts for families who rely on Ronald McDonald House.
