Newmarket, ON – The 9th Annual Robin Evans Bradford Charity Golf Tournament in memory of Gary Colangelo (a York Regional Police Superintendent) will take place on Friday, June 1 at the Harbour View Golf & Country Club in Gilford. The tournament has raised more than
$155,000 for a variety of causes including the War Amps, the Bradford Food Bank, a school breakfast program, seniors who require in-home care, people with disabilities, palliative care, a reading program at Chris Hadfield Public School and more. Organizer Robin Evans invites sponsors and volunteers to help make this year’s tournament another success.
“We have space for just a few more golfers; I like to keep the tournament small so that it goes faster for players. We will have a delicious prime rib dinner prepared by Little Black Dress Catering. I am offering a $10,000 hole-in-one prize as well as approximately $8,000 in other prizes—many of which are provided by sponsors. That really helps to minimize costs so that I can donate as much as possible to charities.”
As a thank you to sponsors, Robin invites them to join the tournament dinner and he buys a full-page advertisement in the local newspaper listing the names. Sponsors have ranged from individuals to major corporations. He recently signed up Goodlife Fitness as a hole sponsor and they will be donating gift bags and membership prizes.
Robin is also looking for one or two volunteers. He notes that organizing this event on his own while working in real estate can be too busy. At times he has considered not hosting the tournament, but the response from charities and participants keeps him going.
To sign up as a player, volunteer or sponsor, please contact Robin at 905-953-6200.
Over the past eight years of the tournament, Robin has donated $43,300 to the War Amps. This non-profit group assists children and adults who are missing limbs due to cancer, car accidents and other reasons. Robin began supporting War Amps long before his granddaughter was born missing an arm. He understands how very vital the War Amps’ services are to their users.
