Vernon, B.C. – The elves at Sutton Group – Lakefront Realty are busy preparing for the Christmas Gift House on December 14, 2019. Donations of new or gently used kitchen gadgets, tools, jewelry, accessories, games, books and knickknacks are needed. Last year, more than 250 children lined up to find gifts for the special adults in their lives. They purchased the items for as little as five cents to as much as $1. Their purchases raised more than $800 for People Place, which in turn assists various community groups.
“Donation boxes are set up now until December 10 at RE/MAX, Royal LePage, Home Hardware, Ladies World Fitness, Vantage One Credit Unions, City Furniture, Vernon Curling Club and of course our own office!” says Tara Sopel, Office Administrator at Sutton Group – Lakefront Realty.
“It is a great little event at a time of year when so many could feel left out. I was a gift wrapper last year and in between wrapping, I glimpsed the kids and teens looking over the tables trying to match a gift to the list of people on their list. Seeing their smiles and hearing how excited they were when telling their 'elf' how much that person is going to love the gift was super heartwarming!”
Gerran Thorhaug, owner and operator of Browns Social House in Vernon, has a special treat for visitors. He has generously donated a few hundred gingerbread houses so that every child who shops at the Christmas Gift House can take home a gingerbread house to decorate.
All the REALTORS® and staff from Sutton Group – Lakefront Realty pitch in to help with the Christmas Gift House. Some are ‘elves’ who shop with young children, while others wrap gifts, serve as cashiers, restock tables, or simply greet visitors and spread some holiday cheer.
