Mississauga, ON – As an advocate for condo owners and a valuable resource for property managers, builders, law enforcement and all levels of government, the Condo Owners Association (COA) is once again at the forefront of key issues including transient rentals and food waste. Linda Pinizzotto, the founder and CEO of COA, first raised awareness of food waste six years ago at a local home show. Earlier this month, she was pleased to be invited to join representatives from the City of Toronto, the Ministry of Environment and many other stakeholders to explore solutions, particularly for condo owners.
“We have a tremendous crisis with respect to food waste,” says Linda. “Most condos are not built with ‘trisectors’ to separate out food. People sometimes put food waste down the drain directly or through a garburator. This can cause pipe blockages in buildings and it puts pressure on the city’s sewer system. It is costly for everyone.”
The forum looked at successful models of food scrap collection in Vancouver and elsewhere. Linda is hopeful that the outcome will be a better system that ultimately benefits owners, taxpayers and the environment.
Transient rental is another hot topic. Airbnb and similar apps make it easy for condo owners to rent their suites, but there are negative impacts on a building’s security, neighbourhood parking, etc. “I’ve been to every Airbnb stakeholder meeting to try to ensure condos are protected in the midst of this changing environment,” says Linda.
The police have also turned to her for her expertise on criminal cases including fraud and human trafficking at condo properties. In fact, Linda and her team of assistants field an enormous number of inquiries. Linda has donated her time to the COA because she is dedicated to making a positive difference.
