Whitby, ON – The zombies are coming! On Halloween night, the undead will take over the garage, driveway and front yard at 29 Robert Attersley Dr. East in Whitby. There will be a gory zombie doctor’s office, a graveyard with ghosts and zombies, a human meat market, a living dead daycare, a torture chamber and a giant jumping spider. The DeLuca family’s Halloween Haunted House has been smash hit for the past four years. In 2015, they handed out 400 treat bags to delighted visitors and collected 225 pounds of donations for Feed the Need in Durham.
“This annual Haunted House began with Chris DeLuca and his family participating in the Annual Toronto Zombie Walk, which happened the weekend before Halloween,” says Gail DeLuca, Office Coordinator at Sutton Group - Heritage Realty Inc.*. “They had such fun dressing up and preparing awesome makeup then walking through downtown Toronto with thousands of zombies that they wanted to continue the fun through Halloween itself.”
So Chris and his family staged a haunted house at their home and word began to spread through the region. It became even more popular with ‘zombiephiles’ when the Toronto Zombie Walk was cancelled in 2015. That year, several hundred people stopped by the DeLuca family’s haunted house. Even with 400 treat bags, they didn’t have enough for all of the visitors. Not wanting anyone to resort to eating zombie style, Chris is preparing more sweet treats to give away this Halloween!
This community-minded REALTOR® is also hoping to set another record: doubling the food bank donation from 225 pounds last year to 450 pounds in 2016. Visitors are encouraged to bring nutritious, non-perishable items such as baby food, powdered milk, canned beans and tuna and nut butter.
Feed the Need in Durham is the regional food distribution warehouse serving Durham Region. It supplies food banks, soup kitchens, community service centres, shelters, drop-in centres, breakfast programs, etc. Approximately 50,000 people per month rely on the food donations.
