Vernon, BC – People across Canada wore sports jerseys on Thursday, April 12 to show their support for the victims of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash. On April 6, the junior hockey team was headed north to Nipawin, Sask., for a playoff game when their bus collided with a semi-truck at a remote intersection near Tisdale, Sask. Sixteen passengers have died and 13 others were injured. This devastating accident moved the nation and people as far away as Africa and Japan.
Crowdfunding has raised more than $12 million to assist those who were injured and families of the victims. The initiative #JerseysforHumboldt was proposed by a group of hockey parents in British Columbia as a way to honour the Humboldt Broncos team.
Sales associates and staff at Sutton Group – Lakefront Realty arrived at their office last Thursday wearing sports jerseys and it took no time at all for someone to suggest a ball hockey game in the parking lot!
They set up nets, put up signs and invited the public as well as a representative from Vernon Active Health.
REALTOR® Dave Forai spoke to local media that stopped by to commemorate the event. “We are doing this for national Jersey Day in support of the Humboldt Broncos and their families following the tragedy.”
“We all came to work this morning wearing our jerseys. One of the guys said, ‘hey, let’s do an impromptu ball hockey game in the parking lot’. We’re having fun with a bunch of REALTORS® and the public stopping by—it’s great. It’s to support the Humboldt families.”
