Surrey, B.C. – Inspirational speaker and author Anthony Robbins grew up very poor. When he was 11 years old, his family received a turkey dinner from a total stranger. That kindness changed his outlook on life. Beginning in his teens, Robbins scraped together enough money to deliver Thanksgiving dinner to one family, then another and another. Now, people across North America participate in the tradition, including Nischal Ram, a REALTOR® with Sutton – Premier Realty.
For the third year in a row, Nischal, along with friends, clients and office colleagues, helped to provide families in need in the Lower Mainland with a full, delicious turkey dinner. This year, his Surrey Basket Brigade delivered 85 baskets to feed a total of 515 people.
“We have had lots of positive responses from the families,” says Nischal. “Most of them are shocked by the generosity, others have tears of joy and we often see the kids going through the baskets right away checking out all the goodies.”
“Our family enjoys this project because it is our way of giving back to the community. We are immigrants from Fiji and we came here in 2000 with almost no money. Lots of people went out of their way to help us out when we arrived. This amazing country provided us with tons of opportunities that we tapped into to be successful and our family is extremely grateful for that.”
Nischal is also grateful to the 21 volunteers who assisted the Surrey Basket Brigade on Saturday, October 6, 2018 including two people from Sutton – Premier Realty. “One of them donated her time and the other donated 25 turkey pans. Thank you also to Broker Larry Anderson and Office Administrator Manny Sraw, who helped to spread the word throughout the office and allowed us to use the training room to put together all the baskets.”
