Swing into Spring Golf Tournament Raises $16,000

Chilliwack, B.C. – The 2nd annual Swing into Spring Golf Tournament took place on Sunday, May 26 at the beautiful Cultus Lake Golf Club. Participants enjoyed an excellent course, a silent auction, dinner, perfect golfing weather, numerous golfer prizes, trophies and a chance to win in Crystal De Jager’s putting green contest. The tournament, which is hosted by the Rotary Club of Chilliwack Fraser, raised approximately $16,000 to help fund a Zero Barriers/Inclusive playground.
“It went very well on Sunday with great temperatures—not too hot, not cold or rainy, says Crystal, a REALTOR® with Sutton Showplace Realty (2015) and a member of the Rotary Club of Chilliwack Fraser for nearly four years. “We had approximately 100 golfers and more guests joined us for the dinner.”
Beginning with the inaugural Swing into Spring tournament in 2018, Crystal decided to organize a Putting Green contest. The latest winner received a shiny new putter worth approximately $500.
“Running the putting contest is a lot of fun. This year, eight people made the hole-in-one putt, but one of those made it twice! So he was the winner and we didn’t need to do a ‘putt off’.”
Crystal notes that there were awesome prizes for golfers including men’s and women’s longest drive, KP, best team score and the “most honest team.”
In addition to the playground, this Rotary club has supported the pediatrics unit of the local hospital as well as four grassroots programs: the B.C. Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation; Abbotsford Restorative Justice (to enhance restorative mentoring for at-risk youth); L.I.F.E. Recovery, residential housing for at-risk women; and JOSHUA House, an organization that houses men in need.
Crystal is thrilled to be a member of the Rotary Club of Chilliwack Fraser for the past 3.5 years. Given the success of this first golf fundraiser, she expects the club will host Swing into Spring again in 2020.
